cherry blossom %26amp; weather now...
I would also like to know this.....
cherry blossom %26amp; weather now...
The cherry blossom isn%26#39;t out yet, nor have I seen it in bud. Normally the best time to see it is around 2nd week in April but due to a mild winter it could be earlier this year. Problem is, often when it comes out, there is a sudden bout of rain and wind so goes as quickly as it comes but, at other times it can be around for a couple of weeks or so - a sight to behold. At the moment spring seems to have sprung here in Korea. Forsythia and Azaleas have put in their appearance, Magnolias are in bud and already beginning to open if they%26#39;re in a sunny spot. Will keep you informed re blossom. The temperature this week-end is 15 - 16 degrees c, clear blue sky %26amp; sunshine....hope this helps!
Update, re my earlier post this morning, have been out this afternoon and noticed that some of the younger cherry trees in sunny positions are beginning to bud and a few actually have blossom coming out. This has happened since yesterday. At the moment the more mature trees are still bare.
Thanks for the updates...most useful! So if they are just beginning to bud, then are we talking another two weeks until they are in full bloom?
I want to go cherry blossom viewing next weekend somewhere...any suggestions? :)
Hi, will be in seoul from 4 to 12 apr, mid week will be in jeju island. any tips for cherry blossom viewing best spots ? Thanks

Normal time for blossom is between April 10 - April 15 but as mentioned yesterday it has been an extra mild winter. Have found out that the predicted time for Seoul area this year is April 4 - April 15. Jedu is much further South so quite a bit earlier.
Regarding best places to see in Seoul area:
1) Yeouido - daytime or evening with illumination and music, considered top spot (very crowded during festival)
2) Childrens Grand Park - a weekday is wonderful because there is the added bonus of seeing thousands of junior and kindergarten kids together with their teachers walking around looking at the blossom. At lunchtime they usually sit down in groups and eat their picnic and the teacher plays music and they sing and do hand actions. The thing that is so amazing about this sight is the colourful track suits that each group of these little cuties wear. So, up high there is a mass of powder pink and on the ground a mass of every colour in the spectrum. The evening, like Yeouido is illuminated and music.
3) Any of the Palaces
4) Ho-Am Art Museum - Hee-Won Korean Garden at Suwon
This is my personal favourite, a few miles South of Seoul. The museum is within the gardens which are particularly picturesque with a lake in the distance which has a backcloth of cherry trees. The road to the museum is an archway of blossom. A photographers dream!
5) Folk Village - Suwon. This and the above (No 4) are not too far apart (maybe 30 min drive) Apart from the blossom the folk village should be high on the list for a visit as there are many things to see, including the spectacular Farmers Dance. You need to look up the times of the programme of events.
You can look up via the internet bus routes, trains maps etc to all of these places.
Below, have pasted a forecast I found for the predicted times of blossom in 2009 in all different ateas
Here’s the schedule provided by the Korean weather agency (KMA) for the cherry blossom watchers:
Seoguipo (Jeju Island) - March 18
Busan - March 21
Yeosu - March 25
Tongyeong - March 22
Gwangju - March 26
Jeonju - March 30
Daegu - March 25
Pohang - March 26
Daejeon - March 31
Seoul - April 4
Incheon - April 6
Gangneung - March 31
Hope this helps, enjoy the blossom!
