Traveling around in Jeju alone possible?

Hi all, I thought of flying to Jeju from Seoul but I heard from people that if you dont speak korean, you will have difficulty traveling in Jeju on your own with public transport.

Has anyone travel to Jeju on your own or any advice on that?

I intend to go 3 days in mid March.

Thank you in advance for any advice...

Traveling around in Jeju alone possible?

I have not done it. However, in Korea speaking and eventually getting understood is not normally too much of an issue, but I think reading WILL be. If you know where the bus is going then you can -with a bit of goodwill and a couple of words- ask to be told where to get off.

If you can%26#39;t interpret the sign on the bus, however, it%26#39;s harder.

Public transportation in Jeju is not convenient as Seoul. Have you thought about rent a car and drive around? You can also hire taxi with a driver who can act as a guide, too. Ask your hotel to arrange one. Jeju island is very popular tourist destination, so I expect things won%26#39;t be that bad for you language wise.

I checked Jeju intercity bus route. I think it is not difficult to take buses.

First, you need to figure out how the island shapes.

If you see the map of Jeju, it is round shape. Most of tour spots are scattered around sea shore. Of course, more than 60% of centeral island is occupied by Halla mountain.

The main road you got to take is ring-round road. There are a few roads which cross the island through the mountain from north to south. Those you got to take sometime to get to other spots which are apart from sea shore.

Here is the map of intercity bus routes which are lined by different colors. Enlarge it you can see some of place written in English. There are 8 routes by this map.

(most of the places are written in Korean though)

I am not sure but there might be English announcement for next stop. But you better tell a bus driver your destination. He will tell you when you got to get off.(I hope he will)

If you are confused, you just tell anybody your destination. I think 99% of people will help you out.

And also when you arrive Jeju airport, pick up a good map and brochure at information center.

Just wanted to tip you that even Koreans don%26#39;t try very much to travel alone in Jeju by public transport...

It%26#39;s not that it%26#39;s impossible... just inconvenient.
