Confused about Korail ';KR Pass';

SO, I%26#39;ve been to the korail website, adn acn see thaty ou can buy a saver pass for 2-5 people.

But what does this mean? Does using the voucher for the 3 or 5 day ';effective period'; mean that you just present the voucher at the ticket window and they let you on the train, or do you have to pay additional money at that point?

I%26#39;m assuming that for 90 dollars US that means you buy the saver pass, 5 day effectiveness, and you can ride the train unlimited until the effective date expires?

If so, the saver pass must be super popular for tourists wanting to ride the KTX to Pusan or other places...right?

I mean if i just pay regular fare, standard class on the KTX for two adults to Pusan, that comes to about 96,000 won. But if I purchase a 5 day Saver Pass for the duration of my trip down south, it looks like I only pay 91 US dollars or around 120,000 won, but I can keep cruising on the train to different places for no extra cost...

I%26#39;m a little confused.

Plus, I%26#39;m not sure if the standard fares quoted on korail website are one way or round trip, if one way, the KR pass seems to be even a better deal.

Our plans are to try to get down to Pusan and visit Nami Island as well, so at least two round trips on train.

Please help!!

Thank you,

G

Confused about Korail ';KR Pass';

I used the 5 day Korea Rail Pass from Busan($50 coming from Hakata, Japan) and went to Seoul(3 hrs.), Gyeongju, west coast line to Mt. Naejangsan National Park(a touch slower due to the existing tracks)and all over on KTX(German built, a little smaller than Japanese bullet) and local trains. It was a great deal for me.

You present the pass at the ticket counter and get a train ticket(if non-reserved local) or reserve the first class seat on KTX and you get the train ticket plus KTX reserved seat ticket. You go through the regular automated gate with one or both ticket(s). The exit is the same. You can get %26amp; change the tickets unlimited times free, no extra cost.

just to check , assuming i%26#39;m going to busan from seoul via KTX

so all i need is to present the pass at seoul station to get a ticket, then board the train directly?

is there any seat appointment or it%26#39;s free seating, depending on available seats ?

economy or lst class?

you must reserve seats on KTX and Saemaul; maybe on other trains.

You CAN go without a seat but reservation is highly recommended.
