Average Cost for Meals, Souvenirs etc..

Hi There,

I have a friend who is planning a trip to Seoul in August.. I was wondering how much the average meal costs in Won. As well as souvenirs, postcards etc.. I am great with currencies usually, but the won really confuses me!

Thanks!

Average Cost for Meals, Souvenirs etc..

sorry; very hard question.

In American chain, perhaps 15,000 Won (=approx 15$US) for a meal; although you can easily pay up to 25,000 (=25 US).

For Korean, from 5,000 to about 20,000 depending on what you want to eat. Sanchon (Buddhist temple resto is about 15,000, but that includes entertainment)

Average Cost for Meals, Souvenirs etc..

If you stick to local Korean restaurants, most of casual places have lunch special about 6,000 won. BBQ is more expensive. Pork is around 10,000 won and beef is more expansive, especially ';Hanwoo';, local Korean beef stock, can go up to around 30,000 won or higher

Cheapest meal I had was at so called %26#39;gimbob jip'; style of restaurants, they usually make gimbop, dried seaweed rolls (no raw fish) with all kinds of stuffing option possible starting from 2,000 won to 5,000 won.

I cannot be sure of exact price of postcards, but I bought some colorful pencil cases and wallets around 2,00-3,00 won at Insa-dong. I remember seeing Korean figures as magnet selling around 1,000 won.

You can google the exchange rate since Korean won flunctuats a lot lately.

Thanks! Thats just what I wanted to know!
