I only have one day for island visit. Which is a more picturistic place, for relaxing, food, shopping and photo taking? How long do I need to visit the island?
Also I heard of this myeongdong place in chuncheon. Is this the same myeondong shopping district in seoul? Am getting a bit confused.
Thanks.
Wolmido Island or Nami Island
I%26#39;d go with Nami Island. Wolmido, although I haven%26#39;t been to in years, I find is not as pristine and with nature..like Nami Island is.
Chuncheon is a completely different city than Seoul, so it is not the same Myeongdong in Seoul. I think they just call it Myeongdong becuz it%26#39;s like the original Myeongdong in Seoul? (Sorry have never been there.)
Anyway, my vote is for Nami Island..many couples go there on dates..
Wolmido Island or Nami Island
i am planning for a trip to Seoul, base ourselves in Seoul for 7 nights. Is it possible to visit Nami Island from Seoul on a day trip? If yes, what is the recommended route (bus/train)? We are travelling with 2 small children (age 3 and 6 yrs old).
Woolmiido has shops a boardwalk and a ferry terminal.
If you can ignore the chemical plant in sight along the coast -not actualy intrusive, it%26#39;s an OK and cheap day out from Seoul (subway to Incheon-si and walk)
Myeong-dong in Seoul and Myeong-dong in Chuncheon is completely different place. They have just same name. One day trip to Nami-sum(Nami island) is possible. Train is available but I recommend the direct bus from Insa-dong(Tour bus depot is next the Pagoda park).
Insa-dong -%26gt; Nami-sum 9:30 am
Nami-sum -%26gt; Insa-dong 4:00 pm
(except Tuesday)
round trip fare is 15,000WON for adult.
(23,000WON include the ferry)
The traffic is heavy on weekend.
Tel) 02-753-1245 (Nami-sum Seoul center)
The most famous food in Chuncheon is Dak-gal-bi(chicken) and Mak-guk-su(noodle). I recommend you try these food if you visit Chuncheon Myeongdong.
looks like wolmido can be done as 1/2 day trip, compared to nami that requires 1 full daytrip.
we may want to visit wolmido (as part of our planned trip to seoul nov/dec) - would a visit in the morning better compared to evening? or vice versa. i assume most shops will open like after 10am - probably an evening visit is better? but its winter - will shops close early then?
seems like a nice place for my 2 kids (age 3 and 6).

comments welcome.
I have been to both. And, I vote for Nami Island. Yes, it takes a day.
Wolmido is not that attractive to me. Maybe, becoz i see the sea in hong kong everyday.
We found Muui island just west of airport very easy to manage. Go to airport. Visit information centre who will give you useful information and map. Bus to ferry 15 mins ferry journey 5 mins and then you are on Muui. We took local bus 15 mins to Hannagae Beach . Nice safe place for kids. But we definitely felt that is was the end of the season. I wonder if the local bus is as regular outside holiday time?
Have been to Nami Island two times when I was teaching nearby. The first time was last November 07, the ornamental fountain and stream had turned to ice and gave a very pretty effect along with frost on the ground. The second time was 25 April 08, it was dry, dusty and the grass had disappeared from the thousands of feet tramping over it every day and the dry, summer weather. Yes it is very popular, but also very crowded, the eating places are unimpressive and I could not use the word ';pristine'; to describe it. Granted, there is a lane bounded by tall trees giving a cool feeling when one is under it.
It is a long way to go with small children, maybe there has been enough rainfall now to make it lush and green. Shopping consists of a UNICEF shop and a sovenir shop plus some restaurants and take-aways.
Muui Island suggested by op would be worth investigating. I hope you enjoy where ever you go to visit.
I posted this question and I shall end with my feedback. I am now at Incheon airport, ready to leave Seoul after a few days here. Visited both Wolmido Island and Nami Island. Wolmido is a real disappointment. I won%26#39;t even call it an island. It is right at the end of a small town and is very deserted with no sights to behold. Nami Island is 100 times better than Wolmido....yeah, may be exagerating a little here but just want to give an idea of how I compare between the two islands. Nami Island has more things to see, more fun and much beautiful than Wolmido. Would definitely recommend Nami Island for anyone who can%26#39;t decide between the two.
what time does the last bus leaves wolmido for the subway station?
