Trouble in Korea??

my wife and I are having the holiday of a lifetime and have booked a business class flight with Asiana Airlines which passes through Icheon airport going and on the return flight. There is a day and a half stop over on the return trip. We have been told there is some trouble in Korea at present and have been offered another flight that will cost a furthe GBP800 but no overnight stopover for the day and a half on the return. should I take it for piece of mind or will it be OK, seats are scarce. Please advise. We travel in March and return in April.

Trouble in Korea??

pablo1318,

I am not sure what kind of problem are you referring. Would you care to elaborate? Sure the relationship with North Korea has been worsened recently, but I doubt war will break out anytime soon. In the past, NK always threatened SK, but it was always just a talk. It has been their favorite strategy to threat the war in order to gain more aids.

As per internal turmoil, sure there is always oppositions to government and its policy, but other than street demonstration (should be OK as long as you avoid the area I heard), there was never any attempt to seize airport as in Thailand.

So I am not sure why would spend substantial amount of money to change your flight ticket. Generally South Korea is pretty safe country with wonderful food and culture.

Trouble in Korea??

no.

South Korea will not, unless something untoward happens, have ';trouble';. If there is anything going on, in my experience the locals will treat you with respect, and probably tell you all about it in a very unthreatening way. Then buy you a drink.

Hi Pablo,

Don%26#39;t think you need to worry. North Korea has a habit of making threats against South korea. These being in order to obtain concessions from the Western Nations. No doubt the latest threat has been accompanied by the usual undated propaganda photo of Kim Jong-il.

I%26#39;m wondering if someone in the travel industry is trying to cream a furher 800 pounds from you.

Cheers.
