I am taking a trip at the end of Feb beginning of March but need help deciding on where to go. There will be a group of 4 women so we want some place safe yet we want some great places to bargain shop. We will only be staying for 3 or 4 days. We will be flying from Guam to our destination and have thought about going to Bangkok, Seoul, and Manila. Does anyone have any thoughts on these places or can offer any other ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Where to travel??
well, Seoul may be pretty chilly still at that time, which the others won%26#39;t.
Seoul is certainly safe.
I don%26#39;t go there to shop- and I guess it depends on what you%26#39;re looking to shop for.
Also, Seoul seems to have a repuation for not being hugely cheap, I guess in part because of exchange rate (although when I DO buy things, I%26#39;ve always found good prices).
Where to travel??
I have been to both Bangkok and Seoul, and two cities are quite different. Bangkok is certainly cheaper, better weather (similar to Guam), and better bargain (although high-end stuff are pretty expansive there, too) Given the current volatile political situation in Thailand, there is a chance you may be stuck at the airport. Protesters seems to love to take over the international airport there.
Seoul is quite safe and have better public transportation than Bangkok. (about dozen subways lines while Bangkok have 2 metro lines and two sky-trains) Seoul metro has good English signs and clean and high-tech trains! It is more expansive, many of stuffs are comparable to US. Although US dollar has become quite strong against Korean won. I liked to shop Korean cosmetics, especially sun blocks and BB creams are the best! If you want bargain, head to Dongdaemoon market area where there are several big shopping malls of shops selling original and knock-off (it%26#39;s not that easy to find though)fashion items. Be prepared to bargain hard! Many shop-keepers seem understand simple English. Say ';DC (shortened for discount) please'; or ';Cash'; than you will be able to cut down prices.
I maybe biased but I think the quality of fashion is more sophisticated in Seoul than Bangkok.
