We will be in Seoul over Xmas and want to be fairly near some of the large markets. Which areas do you recommend staying in? Bidding For Travel/Priceline seems to use the Renaissance Hotel most frequently. Is it near the Gangbook area (north of Han river)? How is the Myeongdong area for convenience?

Renaissance hotel is in Gangnam area, south of Han river, and if you would like to stay near the large market (Namdaemun market), Millenium Hilton Seoul would be the best for you because it is just 5 min.%26#39;s walk from the market.
MyeongDong area is also near the market and has some 5 star hotels like Lotte, Chosun as well as Ibis MyeongDong, the business hotel. There are also Plaza hotel, President hotel and Koreana hotel and so on.
