I don%26#39;t like to travel with tour, i prefer free %26amp; easy trip, but i know nothing about Seoul, hope can get some advise here.
Is it possible we can have a free %26amp; easy trip at Seoul?
Hi Angela,
My wife and I also planning to have a free %26amp; easy trip in Seoul this autumn. We do some researching on the city:
- Guidebooks e.g. Lonely Planet. You can even get a free guidebook (by post) on South Korea from http://www.visitkorea.or.kr
- Websites e.g. TripAdvisor, Official Korean Tourism site (http://www.visitkorea.or.kr)
- Traveling tips from friends who have visited Seoul before.
- Travel brochures from travel agencies. It do perhaps give you some idea on what are the places to visit. From there, you can do some further researching via website and guidebooks.
It will be a challenge for my wife and me since we do not know anything about Korean language - though we do have a friend down there. Would be best to get to note down some common words and places (in Korean hangul) just in case.
But we do love free and easy travels (we also don%26#39;t like traveling in tour groups) as since we feel we get to experience more through this way.
Is it possible we can have a free %26amp; easy trip at Seoul?
Thanks for your advise. By the way, sign up for the visitkorea website is it foc? Btw,the best time to go Seoul is Oct right? coz i prefer autumn.
From what I read and from my friends, yes, autumn is the best time to go.
Though I do not know the Korean Language, I love doing free and easy in Seoul. I did my free %26amp; easy trips myself with my child when she was 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 and I will be doing my 3rd trip with her again (at 5yrs old) this October.
Go for it!
Is possible to go free and easy. I also prefer doing that rather than with tour groups. All my trips have been free and easy, but you have to do alot of research. You can check out the KTO office in Singapore. They have lots of brochures there, and I heard you can buy their rail tickets too. Enjoy your trip and let us know more, because I will be going in early dec....thanks
Wow,
Seem a lot of Singaporean like Korea. I%26#39;m planning a trip to Seoul in Nov with 2 young kids age 5 %26amp; 7.
Any interesting place for young kids and shopping for adults.
Thanks
Began
Well, the kids may like Everland at Suwon. SHopping wise, it depends on budget....some like to shop at Lotte World, or mayb u can try the flea markets. I heard they have premium outlets as well, but not sure about where.
Cludy,
Thanks, do you have any idea on transporations? Do they have daily or weekly pass for sub-way and train ride. Should I stay 6 nights in Seoul or move around differnt city.
Thanks
Began
I just came back from a free and easy trip to Seoul and Jeju Island. You can get their T-money card which is the same as the singapore%26#39;s Ezlink card. It can be used at the subways, buses and some stores. Balance is refundable minus 500 won. The card cost 3,000 won. I travel using the subway map on my hand most of the time and most places are accessible by the subway and subway stations are in English. There is a tourist information counter at most of the touristy spots. You can ask for information there and they do speak English. You can also approach the younger ones in the street but they speak limited English. Most of the time we have to use a little hand signal and that is enough to get us from one place to another.
Shopping wise, I%26#39;ve been to Myeongdong, Itaewon, Ewha Women University Street, Dongdaemun and Namdaemun. I recommend only Myeongdong, Ewha Women University and Dongdaemun.
Do make a trip to Nami Island as well. It%26#39;s worth it.
Food wise, you can find it for 3,000 won to 10,000 won. The portion is big and if you are a small eater, you can order one portion to share for 2 persons.
Hi Began,
It depends on what you want to do in Seoul. Some like to go for the shopping, others go for the scenary and adventures.....i tink u can spend mayb 3-4 days in the city....then d remaining days. u can check out the Jeju Island, or other areas....
